wasted?

And there were some indignant in themselves, and saying, Why has this waste been made of the ointment? - Mark 14:4

Mary poured out something very precious and expensive upon the Lord Jesus and was accused of wasting. Isn't that always the cry of the world? If we're all sold out to God and devoted completely to Him, it would be a waste in the world's point of view! Waste of talent, waste of resources, waste of intelligence and so much more.

If we're going to heed the call of the world and follow after it's principles and fancies, it would seem a waste from God's point of view. Waste of potential for the Lord knows what He can make out of us. But it would require our complete obedience.

Worse still is the waste from our own point of view. This is when we try to please both God and the world. We go nowhere in the world and see all that we've sacrificed as waste but only because we're not enjoying the blessings of a full obedience to God either.

Unc. Philip mentioned it recently. One of the things that came into my mind was how we find it so reluctant to put money into the offering bag, and are so willing to spend more money on movies and entertainment. Which is the real waste?

actually the post was inspired by his message in bdr tek last sunday. :)
when we think of the application, there are endless ways we can apply this truth in our lives. the way we spend our time, money, talents, energy, possessions, thoughts...and the list goes on.

Sir, wat does it mean trying to please both God and the world? Any examples? Like conforming to the world, wat would it mean to conform? Can we simply 'lump' anything new like music, as a way of conforming to the world?
Sry..juz confused.. :)

when the word 'conform' is used in the bible (e.g. romans 12:2), it means 'to shape one thing like another'. so, conforming to the world would imply that we shape ourselves (our thinking and behaviour) to be like the world. that would mean that there is no significant difference between the way we live our lives and the way everybody else in world live theirs.

so living like the world would include many things and yes music is in that list as in what kind of music you listen to (especially the kind of lyrics). but let me remind you that music is not new. the influence of music has been around for ages.

as for trying to please God and the world. basically it means we want to enjoy the best of both worlds. we want to enjoy the pleasures of the world and conform to the ways of the world but at the same time expect to enjoy God's blessings. sometimes we want to try and please people and God at the same time. an example i can think of is if you're doing everything like the world does every other day and then on sunday you decide to try and be 'holy'. it doesn't work that way. the Word of God puts it bluntly that friendship with the world is enmity with God (james 4:4).

hope that gives some answers to your questions if not all.
